Library Director Chris Nolan to Be Honored as Rotary’s 2015 Citizen of the Year

Christina (Chris) Nolan, a 20 year Ridgefield resident, will be honored as 2015 Citizen of the Year by the Rotary Club of Ridgefield at the Silver Springs Country Club on Wednesday, June 3. Rotary awards the Citizen of the Year designation annually to recognize a Ridgefield resident with an outstanding record of community service over a period of at least 10 years. The criteria emphasize the Rotary ideal of “service above self” and hands-on commitment of time and effort to volunteerism and community service.

Theresa Santoro, Rotary’s Chair for the Citizen of the Year program, said “Chris exceeded the rigorous criteria for the Citizen of the Year award because her record of hands-on community service and volunteerism goes back not only for the full 20 years of her residence here in Ridgefield but also for her entire career in every community of which she has been a part. We are proud this year to honor one of our own since Chris is an active member of Rotary who has supported many of our service projects and activities, including Alzheimer’s Walk, Christmas Tree Lighting and the Ridgefield Gone Country BBQ Festival.”

Ms. Santoro added, “A summary does not do justice to Chris’ accomplishments and service but highlights include the following: Chris is director of the Ridgefield Library and in that role led the planning and fundraising efforts for the Library’s $20 million expansion. But she also found time to participate personally and enthusiastically in the Spelling Bee fundraiser for the Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association and enjoyed hosting a family of four from Hungary for 10 days as part of a Fulbright Exchange in which a teacher from Hungary taught mathematics at the Ridgefield High School. Chris is also an incorporator of the Boys and Girls Club, a member of the League of Women Voters and participated in the planning for the 225th anniversary of the Battle of Ridgefield.”

The Rotary dinner meeting on June 3 is open to members of the public who wish to participate in honoring Chris. Guests are charged $75.00 to defray the cost of the meal. Festivities begin with a cash bar cocktail hour at 6 PM. Reservations are required and may be made by contacting Theresa Santoro at tsantoro@ridgefieldvna.org or on the Rotary website at www.ridgefieldrotary.org.
