Wooster School is excited to announce guest speaker, Jim St. Germain, an author and activist, will be presenting at Wooster on Monday, January 29, 2018.
During the school day, our 8th - 12th grade students will have the opportunity to engage with Jim St. Germain, who will be sharing his story as a writer and activist for criminal justice reform at an assembly. He will focus on his book, A Stone of Hope. Jim will also visit Senior Seminar classes to speak with students in smaller groups.
In the evening, Jim will be joining the Wooster Community for a meet the author discussion event. He will be sharing his story beginning at 6:00 pm and then the evening will open up into a Q & A opportunity for the audience. This event is free and open to the entire community. Following the Q & A, Jim will be available to sign autographs of his book, A Stone of Hope, which will also be available for purchase. Jim St. Germain is the co-founder of PLOT, Preparing Leaders of Tomorrow, a mentoring non-profit. Jim has an associate degree in human services from the Borough of Manhattan Community College and a bachelor of arts degree in political science from John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
Jim works with juvenile justice-involved youth and their families in New York City. He is on the Board of the National Juvenile Defender Center and was recently appointed by President Barack Obama to the Coordinator Council on Juvenile and Justice Delinquency Prevention (CCJJ).
Jim has worked with countless local, state and federal officials advising on matters related to juvenile justice, mentoring, mental health, substance abuse, and educational issues.
In addition to those mentioned above, some notables Jim has worked with include former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Congressman Bobby Scott of Virginia, and Junior Senator from Connecticut Chris Murphy, to name a few.
Jim has overcome many obstacles in his young life. His passion for public service comes from his life experiences and his sense of personal responsibility to his community. He speaks three languages: English, French and his native Creole. Most importantly, Jim is a dedicated father to his young son, Caleb.
