Norwalk River Rowing Community Challenge

Norwalk River Rowing Association’s Annual Community Challenge offers the opportunity for businesses, groups and friends to form teams to learn to row with world-class coaches on the Norwalk River. During the six-week program, which runs from May 11th-June 20th, participants have fun and get fit, while acquiring team-building skills that are invaluable both on the water and off. The program culminates in a fun-filled race day on June 20th where teams showcase their newly acquired rowing talent and team spirit.

Proceeds from the event help support the organization as a whole and may also be used for the Matthew Zucker Memorial Fund which provides rowing scholarships, support and equipment for those who wouldn’t be able to afford rowing otherwise. Funds may also be used for NRRA “Catch the Drive,” a peer-run program which draws girls from the local city high schools, teaching them the disciplines and joys of rowing. The focus is on fitness, nutrition and teamwork. Anyone can support NRRA even if they aren't rowing by donating at: http://www.active.com/donate/commcha2015.

Participants will learn basic boat handling and rowing technique through the first four weeks of the program. During this time, teams will develop rowing and racing skills through teamwork and common goals. The final two weeks will focus on race preparation, including practice races against other community crews.

Local businesses are also invited to sponsor their employees’ participation and may wish to take advantage of boat-naming opportunities!   NRRA is a non-profit organization and some donations may be tax deductible.
