Redding Republicans to Host ‘Grand Old Party’ Honoring Former Governor Jodi Rell

The Redding Republican Town Committee has announced plans for a “Grand Old Party” to honor former Governor Jodi Rell on Sunday, October 5th from 5-8PM at the Redding Country Club. The event will include cocktails, dinner and a silent auction.

Special guests who will be present to help honor Ms. Rell include current Republican gubernatorial candidate, Tom Foley and Lieutenant Governor candidate Heather Somers.

M. Jodi Rell served as the 87th Governor of Connecticut from 2004 until 2011. She was the first ever woman Republican governor of the state. Prior to attaining the state’s highest office, Ms. Rell held the office of Lieutenant Governor for nine years and, prior to that, served the 107th House District of Brookfield in the state House of Representatives where she held key leadership posts, including Deputy House Minority Leader and Assistant House Minority Leader.

As Governor, her bold approach to state government helped Connecticut make positive strides toward economic growth and stability while advancing reforms in transportation, education, the environment and healthcare. She led “Team Connecticut” in saving the Groton/New London Submarine Base from closure and its 31,000 jobs statewide. A similar statewide, bipartisan effort headed by the Governor and others also blocked the proposed Broadwater liquefied natural gas platform for Long Island Sound.

She is also given credit for restoring faith, integrity and trust back to state government by proposing and signing into law landmark campaign finance reforms and creating a stronger, restructured State Ethics Commission.

“Governor Rell was a great leader for Connecticut at a very critical time in our state’s history,” said Ward Mazzucco, Chair of the Redding Republicans. “We’re thrilled and delighted to have her as our guest of honor for this gala event and hope to see a big turnout of guests to join us in expressing thanks and gratitude for her exemplary service to our state.

“This will also be a great occasion to meet many of our candidates for state office in the November elections,” added Mazzucco. In addition to Tom Foley and Heather Somers, who top our ticket, we anticipate many of our other candidates for office in the upcoming November election will also be present to pay tribute to Jodi Rell.”

In addition to cocktails and dinner, the evening will feature an exciting silent auction, which will feature, trips, sporting events, fine wine, restaurant dining and many other items.

Suggested contribution is $100 per person/$175 per couple, although contributions at a higher level are encouraged and would be put to good use in helping Republican candidates in this fall’s election.
