Feds Release $77 Million for CT Low Income Energy Assistance

Connecticut’s congressional delegation announced Wednesday that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has released $77,288,422 in funding for Connecticut’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP.)

LIHEAP funds go towards reducing utility bills of low-income residents.

In a press release, Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy along with Representatives Rosa DeLauro, John Larson, Joe Courtney, Jim Himes, and Elizabeth Esty, said “LIHEAP is an indispensable lifeline during challenging economic times, helping to ensure that recipients do not have to choose between paying their energy bills and paying for other necessities like food or medicine. Connecticut families deserve the comfort of knowing their homes will remain heated throughout the winter season, and we applaud HHS for making this possible.”
