Redding Republicans announced their slate of candidates for this November’s municipal election, to be headed by Eric Witt, who will be running for First Selectman. The announcement was made following the Republican caucus, which was held on Tuesday evening at Town Hall. The slate had been previously endorsed by the Republican Town Committee.
“We are proud to announce a very strong slate of highly qualified candidates for these important town positions and are grateful to have so many talented individuals who are committed to serve our town,” commented Kevin Murray, RTC Chair. “We are particularly excited that Eric Witt, a man of impeccable credentials and proven leadership skills, will be heading the slate as our candidate for First Selectman,” he continued.
Eric Witt, 52 years old, is a 15-year resident of Redding, who currently serves on the Redding Board of Education, where he chairs its Long Range Planning Committee.
He is employed as Vice President, Strategic Consulting at Tangoe, Inc., a Connecticut-based software company. He is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy (Annapolis), holds Masters degrees from Yale University’s School of Management as well as the U.S. Army War College, and has a Doctorate in Law and Policy from Northeastern University, where he graduated #1 in his class.
Dr. Witt is also a decorated U.S. Naval officer who, during his naval career, has been selected to command three reserve units. His past assignments have included tours of duty with the Pentagon, the Naval War College, and the National Defense University. In 2013, following an assignment with NATO in Afghanistan, he retired in from the Navy with the rank of Commander.
“I am truly honored to receive this endorsement for First Selectman,” said Dr. Witt. “I look forward to the opportunity to continue the tradition of sound leadership and sensible government exemplified by Natalie Ketcham and Hank Bielawa.”
“This slate of candidates represents a tremendous group of dedicated and talented people who are willing to lend their time and efforts to continue to make Redding among Connecticut's best towns.”
“With so many important issues facing the town including the stalled Georgetown redevelopment project, taxes, road repairs, real estate values that have not recovered from the Great Recession and the broader issues associated with declining school enrollment - we need a First Selectman with a unique set of skills. I believe, with my professional and educational credentials as well as my record of service to our country and town, I am uniquely qualified to address these issues,” he added.
