Road Rage on I-95 Sends Two to Hospital

Troopers Investigate Road Rage Incident

On 6/25/15 at approx. 9:00 p.m. Troopers from Troop G - Bridgeport received a report of a road rage incident on I-95 northbound in the area of exit 41.

Troopers responded and initiated an investigation.  It was determined that two vehicles, a passenger vehicle and a tractor trailer (TT), were northbound on I-95 in the area of Exit 40 when they became involved in a road rage incident.

The passenger vehicle exited the highway at Exit 41, while the TT unit pulled over to the right shoulder on I-95.  The TT operator exited the truck and ran up to the driver’s side of the passenger vehicle while it was stopped for the traffic signal at the end of the ramp.  The TT operator struck the passenger vehicle operator with an unknown object, causing a laceration to his face.  As the TT operator tried to return to his TT unit, the operator of the passenger vehicle exited his vehicle and chased the TT operator, while withdrawing a 9mm semi-automatic pistol (for which he had a valid pistol permit) and fired several rounds, striking the TT operator several times.  The TT operator returned to the TT, left the scene and continued driving I-95 northbound before coming to a stop in the area of exit 44 where he was located by Troopers.

Both male operators were transported to Yale - New Haven hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Western District Major Crime Detectives responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.  Detectives processed the scene and collected evidence.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have any information, is asked to contact State Police Detective Allegro at 203-696-2565.  All calls will be kept confidential.
