Flu Shot Clinic at Danbury Farmers' Market on October 23

"The more colorful the food, the better. I try to add color to my diet, which means vegetables and fruits." - 3-time Olympic Gold medalist Misty May-Treanor

The Danbury Farmers' Market, which runs every Friday, 11:00am to 5:00pm, through October 30th at Kennedy Park (Main & Elm Streets), celebrates World Food Day on Friday, October 16th. "It’s fitting that World Food Day falls on the same day as our Danbury Farmers' Market here in CityCenter," notes PJ Prunty, recently signed on as Executive Director of CityCenter Danbury, which manages the Market. "The Danbury Farmers' Market has been an absolute catalyst in increasing the access to fresh, healthy and local food to our residents. Just stop by each Friday during the Danbury Farmers' Market season and you'll see the positive impact it has throughout the Danbury community."

Beyond fruits, vegetables, clams, and fresh baked breads, the Danbury Farmers' Market does more. On Friday, October 23rd, the Market will offer a flu shot clinic, arranged with the Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association. Anyone who steps up to the shot will receive a $5 certificate to spend on fresh "Connecticut Grown" fruits and veggies.  "All to encourage people to eat for health," says Peggy Zamore, a nutritionist who oversees the Danbury Farmers' Market Community Collaborative. "I love watching children with their moms, or teachers, shopping for the evening meal. It's heartening."

Acknowledging "Better Health Through Better Food," the focus of the Market's extensive efforts to provide access to fresh food to the largest possible population in need, that impact has been sustained by Fairfield County's Community Foundation, through private and individual donations, as well as by the Connecticut Department of Agriculture through the Community Investment Act, Danbury Housing Partnership, Danbury Housing Authority, Dorothy Day Hospitality House, The City of Danbury and various community places of worship.

CityCenter events and programming are supported, in part, by Union Savings Bank, Ventura, Ribeiro & Smith, Family & Children's Aid, Danbury Parking Authority, Danbury Cultural Commission and the City of Danbury.
