James Mindrum of Stratford was killed in a motor vehicle accident in Fairfield at approximately 2:00 am this morning.
CT State Police say that Mindrum was traveling in a Ford Escape on 1-95 northbound, south of exit 23, when, according to a witness, his vehicle veered off the right shoulder of 1-95 northbound. Mindrum then traveled through the wire rope guardrail and down an embankment before sticking a tree head on. Police say the victim did not apply his brakes. Mindrum was extricated from the car and pronounced dead at the scene.
As a result of the accident, police say that the right lane of 1-95 northbound, south of exit 23 was closed for about three hours.
The victim's next of kin was notified by State Police personnel.
The case remains under investigation.
