Welcome to another "P-06877-etry” feature where Ridgefield’s second Poet Laureate, Ira Joe Fisher, shares his poetic prowess with HamletHub readers!
One June Day
A baseball field glows from sun,
from sneakered feet
and is the church of fatherhood.
A child – boy, girl – romps over the grass
as green as a dream dreamed in summer.
My father watched my play
and I watched my daughter and sons play
in the lush, leafy, lingering-ever sun
of summer and June and fathering. A gift.
A gift that lives in remembering.
A gift given from some high place
to lift the heart and show its love
on a sacred, holy baseball field
…one June day.
