Ira Joe Fisher's P-06877-etry from War Memorial on Main Street: Memorial Day

Welcome to another "P-06877-etry” feature where Ridgefield’s Poet Laureate, Ira Joe Fisher, shares his poetic prowess with HamletHub readers!

Memorial Day

Listen.  To the wind.

This is a day for remembering;

for flowers and flags

…to remember what is sacred.

On a day to pray and never forget

those who gave – women and men –

who gave and fell to the thuds of war.

Listen.  To the wind

joining our prayer to remember

those who fell.

Listen.  Listen and remember

and say, quite quietly, “Remember.”

Decoration Day.  Memorial Day.

A day for flowers and a flag.

Listen.  As we pray to remember.

As we pray, pray, pray for peace.

Listen.
