On May 2, the Ridgefield Playhouse presented the Mayhem Poets for over 1,000 students and teachers as part of their Arts in Education series. This show demonstrates the power of poetry for self-expression through spoken word. The Ridgefield Playhouse Arts in Education program is free of charge thanks to their generous Board of Directors and funders.
As part of their “From Page to Stage” enrichment program, the Ridgefield Playhouse is hosting an inaugural Performance Poetry Showcase. Leading up to the performance, students were invited to write and record their own slam poetry pieces which were submitted to the Playhouse and shared with all schools attending the performances.
While all pieces were showcased in an online format, two were selected to perform on the Playhouse stage alongside the Mayhem Poets. See excerpts of the winning pieces below.
“Earth Day means we all must try— To guard the land, the sea, the sky. Not just one day—make it last! Let’s fix the future, learn from the past.”

“I understand the emotional signs around me.
I say I am what I make myself.
I dream to achieve all of my goals.
I try to better my past beliefs.
I hope for everything and above.
I am Anastasia”
