Ridgefield Form of Government Holds Public Hearings

Ridgefield, CT, May 30, 2025; -- The Town’s Form of Government Committee is holding public hearings on its suggested changes to Town government before it submits those recommendations to the Board of Selectpersons at the end of June. Hearing dates are Saturday, June 14 (10:30 AM) and Monday, June 16 (7 PM) in Town Hall’s large conference room.

Specifically, the committee is recommending that the Town hire a professional town administrator to help with the increasingly complex job of running a town of 25,000 people. It is also recommending some changes to the roles and responsibilities of the Town Meeting and Board of Selectpersons that could make each of those bodies more effective while maintaining voters’ voices in key decisions. Finally, it is recommending some changes in how Town Meetings are scheduled and conducted.

The committee’s draft report will be posted on the Town website by June 9. A limited number of printed copies will be available at Town Hall and the Ridgefield Library. This report is the culmination of nine months of research, discussion, and debate on forms of government throughout the state, as well as meetings with town leaders (both here and in other towns), town employees, and the public.

One finding is clear: civic engagement is key to good governance. The Committee encourages all residents to stay informed and to express opinions at the hearings or in writing to torfoga@ridgefieldct.gov .
