The Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra (RSO) continues its 60th anniversary season on Saturday, April 5th with a concert titled HEROES & HOPE featuring the outstanding professional musicians of the RSO, under the leadership of Music Director Eric Mahl.
The concert opens with the lively Danse Nègre by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, followed by Margaret Bonds’ beautiful Montgomery Variations, including a very special prelude by acclaimed tenor Tshombe Selby. The performance concludes with the powerful Symphony No. 4 by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
Symphony No. 4 features all the hallmarks of great Tchaikovsky – brilliant orchestration, gorgeous melodies, romantic intensity and influences of Russian folk song. The symphony was a breakthrough work, a huge creative leap beyond the composer’s first three symphonies and other Russian composers of that time. “This is a piece that must be heard live to be fully experienced” says RSO Executive Director Laurie Kenagy. “We are so fortunate to have a world-class orchestra locally to perform music of this scale. We are also excited to introduce Ridgefield to Tshombe Selby, who joins the orchestra for a beautiful prelude to the Montgomery Variations.”
Tickets can be purchased by calling the RSO box office at 203-438-3889 or online at https://ridgefieldsymphony.org/buy-tickets-2024-2025
