Last night, Ridgefield gathered at the heart of town—our beloved Ridgefield Library—to celebrate not just a building, but a beacon of community. The occasion was the Library’s annual Great Expectations Gala, and this year’s spotlight shone brightly on Dean and Theresa Miller, recipients of the Hope H. Swenson Visionary Award. This recognition honors individuals who embody the spirit and mission of the Ridgefield Library, continuing the legacy of Hope H. Swenson herself.
The evening began in the Bossidy Commons with cocktails and a warm sense of welcome. À Table served up hors d'oeuvres alongside signature gin and bourbon cocktails, mocktails, and wines from Hall Napa Valley. The vibe: celebratory, heartfelt, filled with familiar faces and good conversation.
Guests later made their way upstairs, where the evening unfolded into an elegant dinner featuring filet mignon by À Table. Library Director Brenda McKinley opened the program with a few words about the Millers and the significance of the award.
Then came a personal and moving toast from nieces Sarah Anderson and Kristin Missenis, who shared stories about their aunt and uncle’s constant support and quiet leadership—always showing up, always guiding with heart.
When it was their turn to speak, Dean and Theresa spoke plainly and powerfully about their love for Ridgefield and the central role the Library has played in their lives. Their gratitude was palpable, and their message clear: community matters, and Ridgefield Library is at its core.
The celebration didn’t end there. The Lower Level came alive with dancing (thanks, DJ JAMM) and sports streaming for the fans—F1 racing and the Knicks for those still holding playoff hope. Late-night bites rounded out the evening.
Special thanks go to Development Director Jane Lindenburg, Gala Co-Chairs David and Julie Yaun and Peter and Marcie Coffin, and the entire Gala Committee for their tireless work in making the night possible.
Dean Miller joined the Library Board in 2012, serving six years—four as Treasurer and two as Chair. He helped guide the Library through the completion of its new building and was part of the team that welcomed Brenda McKinley as Director. Dean and Theresa have been active since the Gala’s earliest days in 2014, serving on the committee for seven years. Their commitment was honored with the Paccadolmi Award, and in 2022, Dean was named Citizen of the Year by the Ridgefield Rotary Club.
The Ridgefield Library is more than just a building of books—it’s a foundation, a resource, a place where ideas grow and community thrives. Thanks to Dean and Theresa Miller, and to all who make nights like this possible, we are truly blessed to call Ridgefield home.
