The Chris Robinson Brotherhood returns to rock on Thursday, August 23, at The Ridgefield Playhouse

In 2011, after more than 20 years of intense gigging and recording with the Black Crowes, Chris Robinson set off to shape a fresh rock mythology that is part soul and part boogie known as the Chris Robinson Brotherhood. Rock singer/guitarist Chris Robinson’s (lead singer of the Black Crowes) latest project is The Chris Robinson Brotherhood. These seasoned musicians are legends in their own time and will perform in An Evening with The Chris Robinson Brotherhood at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Thursday, August 23, at 8 p.m.  What began as an experiment without expectations turned into a 118-show journey that surprised these pros who have created their hybrid sound with Neal Casal (lead guitarist of Ryan Adams and The Cardinals) on guitar, Adam MacDougall (of the Black Crowes) on keyboards, George Sluppick on drums and Mark "Muddy" Dutton (of Burning Tree) on bass. They’ve developed exuberance in their studio debut album Big Moon Ritual (released this June) followed by companion album The Magic Door (September). A Guinness Black Lager beer tasting kicks off the evening at 7:15 p.m. Piccolo Pizza and Jazzeria (24 Prospect St., Ridgefield) is offering a free glass of wine at dinner the night of the show when tickets/stubs are presented. This event is part of the Guinness Black Lager Rock Series with media sponsor 99.1fm WPLR.

The Chris Robinson Brotherhood is also a torchbearer for rock's 1950s roots, tapping the catalogs of greats like The Everly Brothers and Elvis Presley and making them their own. "Remember, when they shot that satellite into space a few years ago, Chuck Berry's music was on there," says Robinson. "My thing is bringing in the lost language of rock ‘n' roll. I find myself listening to tons of fifties rock music and the songs are just so great!" says Robinson. "We already feel successful because we have the freedom to do what we want. And it's always cosmic. The times demand it."

Chris started his music career with The Black Crowes in 1989 with the successful album Shake Your Money Maker (#4 on Billboard in 1990). His first solo recording was “The Red Road” featured on the soundtrack to the Goldie Hawn film The Banger Sisters in 2002.  Robinson has shared the stage with Elvis Costello, Gov’t Mule, The String Cheese Incident and Phil Lesh. By way of trivia, Chris Robinson was married to Goldie Hawn’s daughter, Kate Hudson, for six years.
