Media and Your Child: How Much Influence Does It Really Have?

Technology is everywhere.  TV, movies, computer….devices you use daily that you may not even be aware of!

 How much time has your child spent in front of a screen this week? Do you want to know if screen time and the media really influence your child? How much is enough? What can I do about it?

The Saint Mary Mothers’ Club presents ~ A Seminar to Discuss Children and Media, on Thursday, February 23rd from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm at the Ridgefield Recreation Center, Charter Oak Room 1.  This event is open to all.

Presented by Brenda Chapman, M. Ed.

Brenda has been in the field of education for 26 years. After an international student teaching experience, she began her professional career as a public school teacher in Stamford, CT. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Psychology. She earned a Masters in Education in Curriculum Development for grades one through eight.

Brenda maintains teacher certification in Connecticut through extensive graduate course work including Columbia University’s Teachers College course Psychology of Media and University of Connecticut courses in the Education of the Gifted and Talented. She is also a certified Instructor in Great Books and Jr. Great Books, the Socratic Method of Shared Inquiry shown to enhance critical thinking skills.

Brenda currently owns ”Up For Discussion” a literature based group discussion business that serves multiple generations. Groups include parent/child book clubs, parenting book groups and Great Books Classic Literature Discussions for adults and retired populations.

 She is a sought after speaker and educator on the topic: Media and Children- The  Impact on Children’s Health; What Every Parent Should Know.

Brenda lives in Fairfield County, Connecticut with her husband and four children. Her passion is to inspire action and commitment through well guided group discussion but she also enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, running, yoga, and the beach in all seasons.
