Ski and Sport Store in Ridgefield Hosts Apres Ski Party to Benefit CT Alzheimer's Association

Ski season starts with a fun-filled party

"On November 9th, at the Ski and Sport Store in Ridgefield, there'll be an Apres Ski party for the whole family, a first-time fun event, with a preview of winter sports and fashion, live music by the Easy Street band, prizes and a fabulous silent auction. " We'll even have snow!," says Darlene Mercede, manager of the popular store at 197 Ethan Allen Highway.

All the proceeds will go the Alzheimer's Association Connecticut Chapter, to help end this devastating disease. "Our silent auction is amazing. The best names in skiwear have donated shirts, gloves and equipment worth hundreds of dollars. Everyone who's participating is contributing to the cause, which touches so many families in the area."

While kids play in the snow, Moms and Dads can relax and explore the store's treasures. Gio and Pam Alberino, the brother-and-sister store owners, are doing everything to make this a success. "Our manager, Darlene Mercede, had a grandmother with Alzheimer's and because we're like a family at the store, we are committed to support this cause," says Gio.

Scott Russell, a Ridgefielder who has early onset Alzheimer's, is helping to erase the stigma and secrecy that patients and caregivers struggle with. He will be reading a book he wrote to help youngsters understand the changes they may see in grandparents with Alzheimer's.

"This isn't a commercial event, " Gio Alberino explains. "We're just very happy to bring families together for some friendly fun. Everyone who's part of this benefit is proud to be helping the Ct Chapter do its work supporting patients and caregivers with a 24/7 helpline and educational programs to bring understanding, awareness and news of the continuing progress in fighting this disease.

The Apres Ski Party is free and welcome to everyone. Saturday, November 9, from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. at the Ski and Sport Store, 197 Ethan Allen Highway, Ridgefield. For additional details, call 203-438-3645.
