What is Play for Purpose?
We are men and women hockey players, ages 15 to 75, who will hit the ice on Friday, May 16, to play a continuous 72 hour hockey game at the Winter Garden Ice Arena in Ridgefield to raise awareness and funds for three charities.
Why are we doing this?
It is simple. We, the players, love the game and have decided to play for something beyond the love of the sport. The three charities (501c3) that will be receiving the funds raised at this event include:
- Maria Fareri Children's Hospital Foundation
- University of Connecticut's Entrepreneurial Bootcamp for Veterans
- Fisher House of Connecticut
Donations
All donations will be collected under a separate account by the Friends of Fisher House of Connecticut and be distributed equally amongst the three charities. (Escrow Agreement is posted on PlayforPurpose.org).
Donations can be made online at PlayforPurpose.org.
Any donation will receive a Donation Acknowledgment Letter from Friends of Fisher House Connecticut. Prefer to write a check? Please make your check out to: Friends of Fisher House c/o Play for Purpose P.O. Box 575 Bristol, CT 06011
Sponsorships
All donations or sponsorships made prior to the event, equal to or over $1,000, as well as any corporate matching grants, will be highlighted on our website, PlayforPurpose.org, and promoted at the event.

University of Connecticut's Entrepreneurial Bootcamp for Veterans, ebv.business.uconn.edu
The 'UConn Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities' (EBV) is a novel and 'one-of-a-kind' initiative designed to leverage the skills, resources, and infrastructure of the University of Connecticut School of Business to offer cutting edge, experiential training in entrepreneurship and small business management to veterans with disabilities resulting from their military service in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The mission of the program is to open the door to entrepreneurial opportunity for our veterans, by leveraging cutting edge educational technology and principles of universal design and access to our program of instruction, in order to develop their competencies in the many steps and activities associated with creating and sustaining an entrepreneurial venture.
The EBV has become an integral component of DoD's efforts to transition military members with disabilities from military to civilian life. In 2009, the Department of the Army named the EBV as a national 'best practice' for programs serving soldiers and their families. In 2011, INC Magazine named the EBV as one of the "Ten Best" entrepreneurial programs in the country
