The Margarita 5K, Fundraiser for Ridgefield's Sunrise Cottage Saturday!

SPRINT TO THE REGISTRATION PAGE the Margarita 5K is Saturday!

Get your running (or walking) shoes ready... Southwest Café is thrilled to be hosting the 8th Annual Margarita 5K on Saturday, August 2 at 7 p.m. This race will take you through some of the idyllic streets of Ridgefield and the post-run festivities will be held at Ridgefield's Southwest Café and on the green at the Marketplace at Copps Hill.

Barbara Nevins, owner of Ridgefield's Southwest Café, started the Margarita 5K eight years ago as a fundraiser for the Ridgefield Sunrise Cottage, Inc., a community-based resident group home for developmentally disabled adults.  All the money raised at this year's race will be donated to this important local charity.  And the local Sunrise Cottage residents will be participating too... cheering-on all the competitors in this year's Margarita 5K.

This race, voted the "must-do local race" in the August 2012 issue of Competitor magazine, has had great success over the years and has grown from 70 participants in the first year to almost 300 runners in 2013. And this year, Mrs. Nevins expects even more than 300 people who will come out to run and festivities.

Need some motivation to register for this year's 5K? How about a free margarita (if you're 21 or older) at the finish line? Or free soft drinks for the minor crowd?

In addition to the free margaritas after the race, Southwest Café will be serving dinner and encourages runner and their guests to stick around and listen to some fun music while enjoying some good food. The local Marketplace merchants have also donated gift cards that will be raffled off following the race.
