Ridgefield High School Tigers football players join SAFEWALK!

Local Football Program Supports SAFEWALK!

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Women’s Center will hold its 8th annual 4k “SafeWalk” on Sunday morning, October 5th, inside the Danbury Fair mall.

Fairfield County Bank, an inaugural sponsor of our SafeWalk and dedicated supporter of the Women’s Center, was pleased to announce recently that the Ridgefield High School Tigers football players have joined their 2014 “Strength in Numbers” team. RHS Coach Kevin Callahan declared it mandatory that all his freshman, junior varsity and varsity team members participate in this year’s event. The players are planning to sport their orange jerseys at the Walk, while several of their mothers, who have also committed to attend, will wear their sons’ black jerseys for the morning. SafeWalk not only raises funds to support the Women’s Center’s essential programming and services, it just as importantly raises awareness for groups in our community like the Ridgefield High School football team and many, many others.

The SafeWalk Committee is also excited to add that this year’s top fundraising team will be rewarded with 10 tickets to a 2014-15 Danbury Whalers game, and they will get to drop the first puck! We are happy to include the Danbury Whalers among our ever growing list of sponsors.

SafeWalk is our premier event to unite the community in our mission to end domestic violence while raising essential funds to support our free programs and services. In addition to the Walk, the event will feature our annual memorial tribute to honor victims of domestic violence in our own community, as well as entertainment, refreshments, and activities for all ages. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by the opening ceremony at 9:15 and walking at 9:30.

Pre-registration is $25 per individual, $15 per student; Walk day registration is $30 for individuals, $20 for students. Please visit our FirstGiving page for information and to register online

Help us work to end the violence by walking to promote safety at home, school and everywhere in between.
