RHS Interact Club Collecting Food & Necessities for RVNA Patients

The Interact Club of Ridgefield High School is collecting food, paper goods, gloves and other items which will be distributed throughout the holidays by Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association (RVNA) to its home-bound patients. Participation in Interact, provides students of high school age, the chance to make a real difference while having fun. Every Interact club tries to carry out two service projects a year: one that helps their school or community and one that promotes international understanding. The Interact club meets at least twice a month, has teacher facilitators and is sponsored by the local Rotary club -- in the case of RHS by the Rotary Club of Ridgefield.

RHS Interact, in its collection project, is guided by RVNA’s “Holiday Wish List” for its patients. In keeping with RVNA’s health care mission, items on the Wish List include not only basic, nutritional foods but also knit gloves and lotion, nightlights and flashlights, sponsorship of grab bars for protection of the elderly from falls and hot hands warmers for emergency kits. RVNA’s wish list also includes gift certificates of $5, $10 and $20 for fresh fruits and vegetables, milk and bread for those returning from rehab.

The RHS Interact students will be delivering their items to RVNA on November 24, in time for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Rotarians Pat Cooney and Joel Third, have coordinated the Rotary Club’s support for Interact and consider this project a wonderful opportunity for community service. The Rotary Club will further its support and supplement the student’s efforts with another collection by the members. These items will be donated in time for the holiday season. Items will be collected at the Club’s annual holiday party on December 10.
