Temple Shearith Israel Mitzvah Day 2015

On Sunday, May 3rd, approximately 130 enthusiastic Temple Shearith Israel (TSI) and Jewish Family Congregation volunteers gathered at TSI for Mitzvah Day, a day of conducting good deeds. One group stayed at the temple to participate in various activities such as embroidering beautiful bookmarks and constructing paper bag puppets for the Women’s Center, making no-sew fleece blankets for needy children, and potting lovely plants for residents at the Laurel Ridge Health Care Center and Ridgefield Crossings assisted living. They also baked and packed yummy cookies for the Dorothy Day Hospitality House.

A second team of volunteers went into the community to take part in several projects including giving the Daily Bread Food Pantry a nice spring cleaning, washing windows at Ballard Green senior housing and working with employees from the Prospector Theater to make friendship dolls for their fundraising efforts. Other teams prepared and served meals at the Dorothy Day Hospitality House, socialized with residents at the Laurel Ridge Health Center and collected food at Stop and Shop for pantry clients.

The event organizers would like to extend a sincere thank you to Gossett Brothers Nursery in South Salem and Young’s Nursery in Wilton for donating flats of herbs and hundreds of beautiful flowers. Thank you also to Posadas Landscaping for donating the topsoil and Party Depot for giving balloons.  Lastly, thanks go out to Piccolo Pizza of Ridgefield and Jo-Ann’s Fabric of Brookfield for greatly discounting products for the event.
