Fairfield County Bank Donates $25,000 to Sturges Park

Fairfield County Bank donated $25,000 to Sturges Park, a four season camping location in the Town of Ridgefield. The money donated will be used for building a new 2,000 square foot log cabin with a wraparound porch. The cabin will be constructed by Southland Log Homes with materials and supervision donated by Don and Jim Sturges of Sturges Brothers, Inc.

Sturges Park sits on 40 acres of land which was given to the town by Don and Jim Sturges’ grandfather back in 2000 with the vision of using it for camping by the Ridgefield Boy and Girl Scouts. The Park currently has twelve lean-tos for camping, three tent areas, a pavilion with picnic tables and a large campfire area. Sturges Park borders New York’s Westchester Mountain Lakes Park which has an abundance of hiking trails, lakes, and land for park users to enjoy.

The new cabin will include picnic tables for working inside and bunk beds for housing. Lights will be installed inside the cabin as well as a wood burning stove for heat. The cabin will have nearby handicap parking with a ramp for handicap access.

The cabin will be available to non-profit organizations for reservation by contacting the Ridgefield Parks and Recreation Department. Construction of the cabin is expected to begin at the end of August and to be completed by the middle of fall.
