A few weeks ago a family on Midrocks Road in Ridgefield suffered a devastating loss as a fire destroyed all of their possessions. A single mother and her two daughters, both students at Ridgefield High School, lost everything. The family was fortunate to quickly find another home and has been busy settling in.
We were informed that the community immediately rallied to support the family. “With efforts being coordinated through Social Services Director Tony Phillips and St. Stephen’s our residents immediately made generous contributions to support the family in their time of need,” explained Ridgefield Economic Development Commissioner John Devine.
Devine noted that over 50 local businesses provided gift certificates and merchandise to support the family. Both Lyn Evans and Turkey Ridge held day long events to support the family. “One of the biggest challenges was to help the family quickly furnish a new empty home. Keeler Tavern generously allowed them to choose furniture from inventory that was in storage for their bi-annual fundraising sales,” says Devine.
A Go Fund Me page has been established on behalf of the family. Contributions thus far total $6,850. The fundraising goal is 10K. The page reads
Two weeks ago I came very close to losing them both in a house fire.
The fire started in the basement from a clothes dryer and quickly spread to the upper level of the house where the girls were at the time. I was not home but they smelled smoke and managed to run from the house less than 30 seconds before the upstairs bedrooms imploded in a fire ball destroying everything in the house.
