Marines Receive Boxes of Sweetness Thanks to Ridgefielder Sharon Scott

Ridgefield resident Sharon Scott just finished packing 17 boxes of Halloween candy which she is shipping to young Marines serving our country.

“It started because I was going send my son some candy. I decided to see if anybody wanted to donate any extra candy they had so that I could send it to his whole platoon,” explains Scott.

Scott’s son, a Ridgefield High School Class of 2013 grad, is stationed at Twentynine Palms, California. There are thirty Marines in his Platoon. “It is usually the last stop for marines when they get shipped out,” explains Scott.

After sharing her idea of sending Halloween candy to her son and his Platoon on Facebook, Scott was overwhelmed by the community support. “You know Ridgefield... people ran with it and it just snowballed from there,” explains Scott.

In addition to mailing boxes her son’s Platoon, Scott notes that she is sending a box to Will Rose and to Clint Hudson. “They are both Marines from Ridgefield,” she says.

Neumann Real Estate on Main Street offered their space as a drop off location. “Heather offered it almost immediately. It made it so much easier,” says Scott.

Scott says she will continue to collect items for the Marines if people are still interested in donating. But, she would like to donate some necessities beyond the sugar. “I’m looking for everyday things, not candy,” says Scott.

Scott is requesting donations of gum, hand cream, chapstick, shampoo, conditioner, and even movies! Please bring any donations to Neumann Real Estate, 395 Main Street in Ridgefield.

Scott has racked up more than $200 in shipping expenses. Small monitary donations are also welcome. "I went with the smaller boxes; each one of them is $14 to send," says Scott.

Do you have young creative kids at home? Scott notes that many have made homemade cards and pictures! She is happy to ship these good wishes!

Thank you to all who are serving our country here at home and abroad. We are very thankful and very proud of you.
