Boots on the Ground: Ridgefielder Aid in Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts
Ridgefielders Ezra Zimmerman and Pete Rossini booked a flight to Houston. “I came up with the idea yesterday after I watched the news and the disaster that is happening there. I called my friend Peter from Rossini Landscaping and said, We have to do something about this.”
Zimmerman, the owner of Ridgefield-based Ez-Moving, and Rossini, the owner of Rossini Landscaping, acted quickly.
“I made arrangements yesterday. I called the shelter and arranged for a drop off,” says Zimmerman. “We will rent a box truck, go to a food distributor, and purchase 10K worth of food and water and deliver it to 5th Ward Multi-Service Center in Houston,” he adds.
The duo will meet former Ridgefielder Greg Wandschneider in Houston on Friday. Wandschneider, now a resident there, will help them with their relief efforts.
Each of us are pledging $1,500 we’re trying to get 10,000. Zimmerman has set up a GoFundMe page and, thus far, has raised $4,311 of the 10K goal. “If we do not meet our goal, we will pay for the difference to make this happen,” says Zimmerman.
Zimmerman is no stranger to helping those in need. This summer, Zimmerman held a summer clothing drive and delivered 500 items of clothing to the Open Door Shelter in Norwalk. “I did a coat drive during the winter with the biz on Main Street and we delivered about 300 coats to the Shelter in Norwalk.” What's more, after last winter's punishing storms, Zimmerman and Rossini grabbed their shovels and cleared the sidewalks on Danbury Road (see photo #1).
