Happy Harvey Tails for 7 Puppies From Houston

In one weekend, seven adorable puppies who were rescued from Houston as a result of Hurricane Harvey, found forever homes thanks to ROAR and local dog-loving residents.

The owners of the puppies, a mother and daughter from Houston, had plans to send the seven Shepherd mix pups, than 6 weeks old, to a nearby shelter. But, when they got word of the impending Hurricane, they were forced to flee the city. “They [mother and daughter] had no place for them, shelters were trying to get their dogs out of the city,” explains Dan Rankowitz, ROAR Adoption Coordinator.

In a desperate attempt to find homes for the puppies they raised, the mother and daughter reached out to Southern Cross Animal Rescue. “The woman they spoke to at Southern Cross Animal Rescue had the phone number for the group we work with, Homeward Bound of Mississippi. It was a quick chain of events,” says Rankowitz.

Homeward Bound shelter provided veterinary care for the dogs, spaying and neutering them. When the dogs were 8 weeks old, Homeward Bound contacted ROAR. “They asked us if we had space and would take them; they were in dire need. We said yes immediately,” says Rankowitz.

And the mom and daughter who saved the puppies from Hurricane Harvey? “We are still trying to get their contact information, it got lost in the evacuation process,” Rankowitz says.

Looking for a rescue pup? ROAR doesn’t presently have a litter of puppies, but they do have a total of eight dogs and six cats who are looking for homes. “We an array of dogs -  large, small, old, young, and we expect more to arrive in coming weeks,” says Rankowitz.
