Fairfield County’s Community Foundation Embraces Arts for Everyone at Ridgefield Playhouse

Fairfield County’s Community Foundation is making sure that more underserved children have the opportunity to attend educational and culturally enriching live theatrical performances by increasing its support of The Ridgefield Playhouse’s “Arts for Everyone” Program for its 2017-2018 season.

The Foundation recently presented The Playhouse with a $15,000 grant from The Barbara Benton Davis Fund to benefit ticket-outreach programs at The Playhouse. “We’re thrilled that Fairfield County public school students and children and adults served by Fairfield County nonprofit organizations will be able to experience The Playhouse as a result of this funding,” remarked Karen R. Brown, Vice President at Norwalk-based Fairfield County’s Community Foundation. “The Playhouse has an extremely impressive calendar of upcoming live theatrical performances and many more children will now have the opportunity to see these shows. We’re pleased that The Playhouse shares the Community Foundation’s longstanding commitment to access to local arts and culture.”

Founded in 1992, Fairfield County’s Community Foundation strives to create lasting change in Fairfield County by ensuring that every individual is given the opportunity to thrive. By giving to ticket-outreach programs at The Playhouse, the Foundation is helping to provide bus transportation and free or reduced-cost theater tickets to economically disadvantaged students from Title 1 schools. The foundation’s grant also makes it possible for The Playhouse to give free tickets to a variety of other local nonprofits and charities.

The Ridgefield Playhouse believes that children gain significant educational benefits from attending live theater and seeks to give as many students as possible access to the performing arts. Ten different shows have been scheduled for the 2017 – 2018 Arts in Education season, beginning with “Ballet Hispanico” on October 13th. In addition to educational shows for school groups, The Playhouse also offers a variety of shows for all ages, including live music concerts, movies, comedy, classes, and simulcasts of The Met Opera, Bolshoi Ballet, and National Theatre of London.
