Family fun at The Ridgefield Playhouse celebrating the 35th anniversary of the movie Grease with the one and only Sha Na Na

It was 35 years ago that Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta danced their way into America's hearts in the ever-popular film, Grease. To celebrate the occasion, The Ridgefield Playhouse is presenting the incomparable rock 'n roll doo-wop group, Sha Na Na, who appeared in the film as "Johnny Casino and the Gamblers." Known for their hits "Blue Moon," "We Go Together," "You're the One That I Want," "Whole Lotta' Shakin' Goin' On" and others, Sha Na Na gave us the most memorable doo-wop songs from the greaser-epic. On Friday, April 25, at 6:45 p.m., ticketholders will enjoy sliders and milk shakes courtesy of Bareburger of Ridgefield, a classic car show plus "Greaser" and "Pink Lady" costume contests in the parking lot before the concert at 8 p.m. A great night of doo-wop fun for the whole family! The "best dressed" will get their picture taken with Sha Na Na. Bistro 7 (Ethan Allen Highway, Wilton) will pour a free glass of house wine with dinner the night of this event when tickets are presented. An AllShows.com VIP Party Pass ($25 addt'l per person), which includes a pre-show cocktail party 6:30 – 7:15 p.m. with open bar, hors-d'oeuvre and priority parking, is available for this show by calling the box office (203-438-5795). This event is partially underwritten by Ace Tire & Auto Center and is part of the Xfinity Rock Series.

The audience gets to twist, stroll and hand jive to the classics as performed by the crowned princes of doo-wop and rock & roll, Sha Na Na, in a "competition" where a good time will be had by all ages. This Ridgefield Playhouse event is sure to get people up and out of their seats!

Sha Na Na's show will be a dynamic event that highlights their four-decade journey from Woodstock, the movie Grease and their TV show as well as their worldwide tour stops. When the guys in Sha Na Na were in college at Columbia University in 1969, they combined their love for the Rock & Roll classics with a dynamic theatrical approach.

This summer marks the 45th anniversary of Sha Na Na's appearance at The Woodstock Festival. Never content to rest on their laurels, Sha Na Na just released Sha Na Na Greaser High School Hop, which features 25 signature songs that create an instant high school hop dance party. "The Bop," "The Twist," "The Stroll," "The Hand Jive," "The Monkey," "The Jerk," "The Cha Cha" and even "The Hokey Pokey" are among the great dances of the '50s and '60s celebrated in this collection. Also included are songs they sang in the movie Grease ("Sandy", "Rock & Roll is Here to Stay"), The Sha Na Na TV Show ("Rock & Roll Hall of Fame," "You Can't Sit Down") and at Woodstock ("At The Hop").

For tickets ($40), call or visit the box office at (203) 438-5795, or order online at ridgefieldplayhouse.org. The Ridgefield Playhouse is a not-for-profit performing arts center located at 80 East Ridge, parallel to Main Street, Ridgefield, CT; ridgefieldplayhouse.org.
