Experimental Drawing, Costumes, and Cocktails tomorrow night at The Aldrich

The Aldrich is pleased to welcome back—by popular demand—Dr. Sketchy's, a unique arts organization that combines a traditional art class with non-traditional models like burlesque performers, cabaret stars, and circus artists. Enjoy the casual, fun environment at an adults-only, performance-art-meets-life drawing class celebrating the Museum's 50th Anniversary in Mad Men-style! Aldrich members are invited to a private class at 6 pm, where model Kitty Katastrophy and emcee Mistress Dot Mitzva will wear barely-there, early-1960s-inspired fashions. The public are welcome at 7 pm for cocktails and more sketching.

The Dr. Sketchy's New Haven Chapter was established in 2009 in partnership with Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School, founded in 2005 by artist Molly Crabapple as an alternative to the sometimes-stuffy classroom experience of life drawing. Dr. Sketchy's has provided artists with a rule-breaking cocktail of dames, drinking, and drawing, with over one hundred branches worldwide.

It is not necessary to be an artist to join in—but participants must draw. Don't worry, lots of guests at Dr. Sketchy's events are new to drawing, the object is to have fun. However, more seasoned artists are encouraged to take part and get their draw on!

Members: to register for the members-only session, please register online or contact Maureen Shanahan at 203.438.4519, extension 125. For further information, call the Museum at 203.438.4519 during business hours.

Major support for Museum operations has been provided by members of The Aldrich Board of Trustees and by the Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Foundation.
