Emmy award winner Kevin Briody teaches songwriting at The Ridgefield Playhouse

HamletHub A Whole New You Series presents: Songwriting with Kevin Briody ~  September 18 through November 6 at 7:30 pm at The Ridgefield Playhouse.

Do you dream of taking your music beyond singing in the shower? A song unleashes its power and who knows where it'll go? Songs fuel desire, inspire hope, break hearts, rock worlds, unite people, shake booties, turn blahs into blues, and sometimes make us feel as goood as James Brown. All in a mere few minutes. Award Winning Musician Kevin Briody will teach you how to structure songs, create "hooks," craft lyrics, manipulate melody, rhythm and harmony, merge words with music, and write toward genre. Whether you favor pop, rock, hip-hop, R&B, country, music, lyrics, or both, he'll show you how to write songs that soar!

A two-time Emmy® award-winner, he is an internationally recognized singer and songwriter who has shared the stage with talented artists ranging from Art Garfunkel to Aimee Mann. In 2008, Kevin took home his first Emmy for Best Original Song with "Little Starr"— a tune that also earned him a BMI Film & Television Award. His 2009 song "We All Fall Down" earned him a second Emmy in the Best Original Song category that same year. A recording star in his own right, Briody has released four CDs to date. His song "We're All Heroes" opened the Connecticut Special Olympic Summer Games; Autism Speaks, a national organization combating autism, commissioned him to write the song "Bring Them Back" to help raise awareness. Most recently, Briody's song "Not Just A Dream" was featured on NBC's broadcast of The 2010 Winter Olympic Games. A resident of Connecticut, Briody served as the Official State Troubadour from 2000–2002 and has been selected by the Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism as a Master Teaching Artist. He teaches songwriting workshops to aspiring songwriters of all ages. Students will learn everything from structuring ideas, melody, lyric and instrumentation and will leave with a recording of their song!
