Rabbi and Sofer Gedaliah Druin Visits Temple Shearith Israel

On Sunday, September 14, Rabbi Gedaliah Druin will visit Temple Shearith Israel (TSI) and spend the day with the religious school children and congregants. Rabbi Druin is a sofer, a Jewish scribe tasked with the sacred duty of writing and maintaining the Torah scrolls, as well as other religious documents. He comes to TSI from Sofer on Site, a father, son and son-in-law team dedicated to this spiritual work. Rabbi Druin is a master scribe who works restoring Torahs, giving lectures and presentations, and conducting workshops around the world.

In the morning, he will share the marvels and inspirational meanings of the Torah and Hebrew alphabet with the religious school students. He will explain the purpose of the parchment, ink and quill, and the meaning of each letter. From 12 noon to 1 p.m., Rabbi Druin welcomes members of the TSI family that have an interest in learning about preserving and maintaining the sacred scrolls.

TSI Rabbi David Reiner explains that this unique and special event is open to all members of the Ridgefield community and encourages you to attend. To learn more, contact the temple office at 203-438-6589.
