“World’s greatest bar band” NRBQ will rock The Ridgefield Playhouse on Friday, September 19

NRBQ  - the world’s greatest bar band - will be in concert at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Friday, September 19, at 8 p.m. NRBQ (New Rhythm & Blues Quartet) is that rare group that's eclectic, stylistically innovative and creatively ambitious, while sounding thoroughly unpretentious and accessible. At its best, NRBQ's music casually mixes up barrelhouse R&B, British Invasion pop, fourth-gear rockabilly, exploratory free jazz and dozens of other flavors while giving it all a stomp-down rhythm that makes fans want to dance. Their most recent album is this year’s Brass Tacks (Clang!).  NRBQ’s music expresses a sense of joy and easy good humor that comes straight from the heart. Southwest Café (109 Danbury Rd., Ridgefield) will pour a free margarita with dinner the night of this event when ticket is presented. An AllShows.com VIP Party Pass ($25 addt'l per person), which includes a cocktail party from 6:30 – 7:15 p.m. with open bar, hors-d’oeuvre and priority parking, is available for this show by calling the box office (203-438-5795).   This event is part of the Xfinity Rock Series.

With founder & driving force Terry Adams on keyboards & vocals, Scott Ligon on guitar & vocals, Casey McDonough on bass & vocals, and Conrad Choucroun on drums, NRBQ has a devoted following from many years of live shows. The band never works with a set list, so fans never know what songs to expect. In addition to its own compositions, the band performs a broad range of cover material and audience requests. They have attracted fans as diverse as Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello and Keith Richards. NRBQ songs have been performed by Bonnie Raitt, Los Lobos and Dave Edmunds among many others.

Brass Tacks is as accomplished and as spirited an album as the band has ever made,” says the Los Angeles Daily News. “Brass Tacks contains the fun, zest, humor and flat-out rock that has defined the band since their birth decades ago,” says Rolling Stone in their online review, and, adds Magnet, “…hats off to the NRBQ dynasty.

For tickets ($35), call or visit the box office at (203) 438-5795. The Ridgefield Playhouse is a not-for-profit performing arts center located at 80 East Ridge, parallel to Main Street, Ridgefield, CT; ridgefieldplayhouse.org.
