Rare performance by The Musical Box tribute band at The Ridgefield Playhouse

Genesis Foxtrot album performed by The Musical Box at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Sunday, February 8

The great English rock group Genesis began a new tour to promote their fourth album, Foxtrot, in 1972. The Musical Box tribute band will present a rare performance of this classic album, re-created by the only band in the world to acquire from Peter Gabriel and Genesis the performing rights and access to archives, audio tracks and original slideshow. This unique event will be center stage at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Sunday, February 8, at 8 p.m. with all the songs from the album and all the spectacle, authentic instruments and costumes of the original Genesis. The Musical Box is undertaking the reproduction of the original concert in painstaking detail to give people the illusion of being at the actual Genesis show. Piccolo's Pizza & Pasta Jazzeria (24 Prospect St., Ridgefield) will pour a complimentary glass of house wine with dinner the night of this show when ticket is presented. An AllShows.com VIP Party Pass ($25 addt'l per person), which includes a pre-show cocktail party 6:30 – 7:15 p.m. with open bar, hors-d’oeuvre and priority parking, is available for this show, which is part of the Xfinity Rock Series.

The visual reconstruction of the Genesis show was based on photos and slides of the original concerts, as well as articles from papers and magazines plus information offered by numerous people who either worked on or attended the original Foxtrot tour. Couple that with the outstanding artistry and musicianship of The Musical Box and the audience is flawlessly transported back in time.

A bit of background on Genesis: Five British musicians, under the name of Genesis, began touring Europe and North America to promote the release of their albums including Foxtrot.  Both the theatrical imagination of Peter Gabriel and the intricacy and intensity of Genesis' music reached their apex and were enhanced by surrealistic sets and special visual effects, leaving audiences spellbound. The Musical Box is so spot on with their authentic staging, instruments and spirit of Genesis, that they receive rave reviews.  Steve Hackett says:  “I cannot imagine that you could have a better tribute for any act. They not only manage to sound, but look virtually identical.”

For tickets ($60), call the box office (203) 438-5795, or order online at ridgefieldplayhouse.org. The Ridgefield Playhouse is a not-for-profit performing arts center located at 80 East Ridge, parallel to Main St., Ridgefield, CT.
