Books On Stage: “The Little Engine That Could” at Ridgefield Playhouse TOMORROW!

This February, the Ridgefield Playhouse has a reprieve for kids suffering from cabin fever: The Pepsi Children’s Series brings “The Little Engine That Could,” a song-filled theatrical event, to the stage on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Presented by ArtsPower, this dynamic event is based on the classic book by Watty Piper.  Little Blue Engine dreams of someday leaving the train yard to pull the big cars on the main line track. But can she convince Big Silver that she is worthy of being a main line engine? “The Little Engine That Could” is an adventure story that portrays Watty Piper’s timeless tale about hard work, determination, and the meaning of true friendship.

When children read the book (available at Books on the Common or Ridgefield Library) then see the play, learning comes alive! Dimitri's Diner (16 Prospect St. in Ridgefield) will take 10 percent off the bill before or after the show when tickets/stubs are presented to make it a great family day.

This event is part of the Pepsi Children’s Series and is partially underwritten by Books on the Common & Ridgefield Academy with support from Ridgefield Library and media sponsor 98Q. The Union Savings Bank Arts for Everyone recipient is Hispanic Center of Danbury.  Other events coming up in the Pepsi Children’s Series include “The Jungle Book”on Saturday, March 21; “Peter Gros of Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom” on Saturday, April 25, and “Hot Peas ‘N Butter” on Saturday, May 9.

The Ridgefield Playhouse is located at 80 East Ridge parallel to Main St. in Ridgefield, Conn. For tickets ($15), call the box office at (203) 438-5795, or order online at ridgefieldplayhouse.org.
