Battle of Ridgefield Walk on Main Street is Saturday, April 25

The Discovery Center at Ridgefield is offering a Battle of Ridgefield walk on Main Street on Saturday, April 25, with two start times.

The walks mark the 238th anniversary of the Battle of Ridgefield. Historic re-enactor and writer George Hancock will be the guide starting at 1 and at 3:30 at the gazebo in Ballard Park.

After a detachment of 2,000 British troops led by Maj. Gen. William Tryon destroyed patriot supplies and then burned the town of Danbury, the British marched to Ridgefield, where patriots had been mustered and skirmished with them in several locations. The engagements resulted in the mortal wounding of Gen. David Wooster. American troops were led by Benedict Arnold.

The program is free for members and $7 for non-members. Registration is required. Visit the Discovery Center website to register (ridgefielddiscovery.org) or call 203-438-1063.
