Up, up and away with Florence LaRue and The 5th Dimension at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Friday, May 29

In the late ‘60s, a little known vocal group named The 5th Dimension recorded a song called “Up, Up and Away,” which turned out to be one of the biggest smash hits in musical history. The single won several Grammy Awards, the group catapulted to stardom and their story has been one of success ever since. The 5th Dimension has released more than a dozen hit albums and received 14 Gold records, six Platinum records and six Grammy Awards. Their classics include such hits as “One Less Bell To Answer” and “Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In”.  Featuring a pop, R&B, soul and jazz repertoire, the iconic group will be in concert singing all the upbeat songs that were the soundtrack of a generation at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Friday, May 29, at 8 p.m. An AllShows.com VIP Party Pass ($50 addt'l per person), which includes a Meet and Greet with the band, pre-show cocktail party 6:30 – 7:15 p.m. with open bar, hors-d’oeuvre and priority parking is available for this show.  Bernard’s (20 West Lane, Ridgefield) will offer a special prix-fixe menu when tickets are presented.  This event is underwritten by Transworld Business Advisors of Fairfield County and is part of the xfinity Rock Series.

Florence LaRue, the remaining original member of The 5th Dimension, continues to surprise fans with her talent, stamina and endless energy.  Whether on stage performing, lecturing, or serving as a celebrity judge for beauty pageants, such as Miss Universe, Ms. LaRue juggles her roles as speaker, vocalist, actress, mother, playwright and humanitarian with the same electric perfection that she devotes to ballads such as “One Less Bell” which bears the signature 5th Dimension sound. “I give my best to whatever I am involved with,” she explains.

The 5th Dimension was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2002 and has a star on the St. Louis Walk of Fame (2010).
