Calling Bluegrass Fans to The Ridgefield Playhouse Tomorrow for Yonder Mountain String Band

Mixing in indie rock with bluegrass, Yonder Mountain String Band offers a unique, exciting and eclectic sound at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Wednesday, July 8

Yonder Mountain String Band, the bluegrass band that has redefined the traditional acoustic genre into the realms of rock n’ roll and improvisation, is now officially a five-piece. The band has confirmed its new band member lineup, which features the additions of violinist Allie Kral and mandolin virtuoso Jacob Jolliff along with founding members Adam Aijala (guitar, vocals), Dave Johnston (banjo, vocals) and Ben Kaufmann (bass, vocals).

Yonder Mountain String Band will perform hits such as "Half Moon Rising," "40 Miles From Denver" and more as well as songs from their just released album "Black Sheep" as they kick off a new era of progressive bluegrass at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Wednesday, July 8 at 8 p.m.  Kicking off the evening is Union Rail, a Connecticut based band who blends a mix of old time American music with their own sound. Make it a night out and visit Bareburger (38 Danbury Road, Ridgefield) before the show and receive a complimentary glass of wine or beer with dinner when you present your ticket to the show!  This event is part of the xfinity Rock Series with media sponsor 90.7fm WFUV.

YMSB has always played music of their own design, in the process attracting a devout legion of fans that often resembles a tight knit family on an epic musical journey as Yonder traverses the country with an ever-rigorous tour schedule. Yonder is a quintessential ensemble honing its craft night after night on the road, and the fans are there to experience it in real time; and the result is music that doesn’t stand still, but is always progressing and breaking unprecedented ground.  With their latest album, "Black Sheep", It’s instantaneously apparent that this is the work of a new Yonder Mountain String Band, one with a strong commitment to re-exhibiting itself, broadening its parameters following the departure of a founding member. While it’s certainly recognizable as YMSB music, there’s undeniably a raw aesthetic to the studio tracks — a sense of daring is embedded in both the instrumental interaction between the five singular players and in the lyrical content of each song.

For tickets ($47 orches., $37 mezz./balc.), call the box office (203) 438-5795, or buy tickets online at ridgefieldplayhouse.org. The Ridgefield Playhouse is a not-for-profit performing arts center located at 80 East Ridge, parallel to Main St., Ridgefield, CT.
