Giant Pumpkins Roll Into Town Tomorrow!

The Ridgefield Chamber of Commerce, Ridgefield Supply Company, and the Connecticut Giant Pumpkin Growers Club once again present the Giant Pumpkin Weigh Off in Ridgefield’s Ballard Park on Sunday, September 27, 2015 from 10 am to 3 pm.

Pumpkin growers from around Connecticut and surrounding states will truck in their pumpkins ranging in size from 400 pounds to over 1,600 pounds to enter in a contest for cash prizes.  The pumpkins arrive and unload starting at 10 am with the weigh off beginning at noon.  Ridgefield’s own pumpkin grower, Steve Maydan, says “Every year the pumpkins get bigger and bigger, and we might even see a pumpkin that breaks the Connecticut state record of 1,766 pounds!  Last year, the top pumpkin weighed 1,625.5 pounds and it’s a thrill for the crowd when the first pumpkin breaks the 1,000 pound mark.”

The Weigh Off also features music, shopping and farm stands, children’s crafts, games, and activities, a pumpkin carving demonstration, meet the pumpkin growers and learn about growing, new trucks on display from Pamby Motors, and new this year: feeding and viewing small farm animals from Ridgefield-based Eco Farm on Wheels traveling educational farm.  Be sure to bring your appetite as Odeen’s BBQ, Zawack Shack Food Truck, and The Natural Scoop Ice Cream Truck will all be on-hand.  Additional sponsors include Bruce Bennett Nissan, Kiwi Country Day Camp, Ridgefield Overhead Doors, and Ridgefield Parks & Recreation.
