According to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, the number of refugees and internally displaced people around the globe has reached its highest level since World War II. You can learn about local response to this global crisis from Chris George, executive director of IRIS (Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services) at Founders Hall on Friday, April 15 at 1pm.
Located in New Haven, IRIS helps refugees and other displaced people establish new lives, regain hope, and contribute to the vitality of Connecticut’s communities. George will describe how the resettlement program works and explain why the vetting process takes two years. IRIS resettles approximately 200 refugees each year, and also provides some services to asylum seekers and other immigrants.
