Woodcock Nighttime BioBlitz on May 20

Woodcock Nature Center will be having a Nighttime Mini BioBlitz on Friday May 20th from 7:30-9:30 pm. This event is part of Weir Farm’s National Parks Service BioBlitz.

This is your chance to participate in collecting important data that will help WNC and Weir Farm create a snapshot of biodiversity in our area. The evening begins with a live owl presentation in WNC's yard where you'll learn about these hunters of the night and their importance in the food chain.

Next, hunt for moths and other nighttime insects with Larry Fischer and WNC Staff. Larry is a naturalist with an interest in moths who has led moth walks at Devil's Den Preserve for four years. Together we will attract, identify and catalog as many species as possible, using lights screens and bait. Collected species data will be included in the overall data of the Weir Farm BioBlitz.

Throughout the evening, stop in to the Nature Center to visit the resident animals and meet some special visitors. James “The Spider Guy” Tully will be on hand with his Amazing Arthropods. Meet and learn about these live arachnids.

This program is geared towards children 5 years and older, teens, and adults. The cost is $15/person. Registration is required and is non-refundable. Visit www.woodcocknaturecenter.org to register and to learn more about the BioBlitz.
