Technology expert Richard Frisch will lead a seminar, “Before Oscar, Inventing Motion Pictures” at Founders Hall on Friday, May 20 at 1pm.
Frisch will take you back to the 19th century when motion pictures were invented and turned into a business. You’ll get to see some of the very first motion pictures ever made, dating from the 1870s. You’ll learn about Eadweard Muybridge, an incredible landscape photographer and rogue who created the first moving pictures to settle a $25 bet by then-California governor and horse breeder Leland Stanford. With Frisch as your guide, you’ll explore Thomas Edison’s early motion picture machines and movies along with those of other moving-picture pioneers. Frisch will also delve into the realm of special effects and describe how effects were achieved in the days before computer-generated imagery.
