Grace Farms Hosts Discussion For Families About Student Safety on College Campuses

This August millions of high school graduates will move into college dorms across the U.S. For many, it will be their first time away from the security of family and home. According to statistics from the Association of American Universities, cited recently by the New York Times, 25 percent of women and 8 percent of men who participated in a major survey of 150,000 students, reported being sexually assaulted during their college years.

On Tuesday evening, June 28, at 7:00 p.m. students and their parents are invited to join a conversation with a panel of experts providing advice and tips for students about making smart choices and enjoying college life while keeping themselves and their friends safe.

The panel will be moderated by Kylee Knoles, an Emmy Award-winning anchor from News 12 Connecticut, and will include Dr. Kate Ott from Drew University and Yale University; Margaret Groban from the U.S. Department of Justice; and Leonora Campbell from Sacred Heart University. They will be joined by Annie Clark, Executive Director at the national not-for-profit, End Rape on Campus, who was featured in the documentary film, The Hunting Ground, about the reality of sexual assault on college campuses.

The Campus Safety Program will be held at Grace Farms on 365 Lukes Wood Road in New Canaan, sponsored by Grace Farms Foundation and the New Canaan Domestic Violence Partnership. This is the third year the New Canaan Domestic Violence Partnership has hosted a forum focused on campus safety. The NCDVP is affiliated with the Domestic Violence Crisis Center which serves the cities and towns of Stamford, Norwalk, Westport, New Canaan, Darien, Wilton and Weston.

The program is open to the public, and registration is available online at gracefarms.org/calendar. Prepared dinners will be available for purchase at the Grace Farms Commons starting at 5:30 p.m. The program will begin at 7:00 p.m. and adjourn at 8:30 p.m. For more information please visit gracefarms.org.
