10th Annual Southwest Café Margarita 5k to Benefit Ridgefield Sunrise Cottage is Saturday!

The Must-do Local Race is a few days away! Have you registered?

If your goal is to run or walk a 5K here is your chance. Or if you want to encourage a friend or family member, this event is for you. And if you love the idea of a local restaurant owner who likes to give back to her community…look no further.

When Southwest Café in Ridgefield, CT opened in 1987, owner Barb Nevins had just moved here from her former home – New Mexico. She brought not only a wonderful Santa Fe cuisine and a Southwest décor, but the chilies infused in almost every recipe. That tradition continues today. The chilies are handpicked and flown to CT by Barb each summer.

To celebrate 29 years in operation, Southwest Café is sponsoring the 10th Annual Southwest Café Margarita 5K on Saturday, July 30th. This fun road race takes place close to the restaurant at 109 Danbury Rd. and is open to all age groups. Sponsors include Joe Fossi of Pelham Homes and Kerry Anne Ducey of HamletHub.com.

Race organizers include M.S. Running Productions, Megan Searfoss and Deb Povinelli of Ridgefield Running Company and Rob Murray, Danbury HS Boys Cross Country and Track Coach. The race starts at 7pm and will conclude with a free margarita for every participant 21 and over (soft drinks for under 21). T-shirts for the first 300 registrants and prizes will be awarded for top 3 male and female runners with additional prizes for top 3 runners by age groups. A commemorative margarita glass to top winners and gift certificates from the Marketplace at Copps Hill Common will go to lucky winners. Cost is tiered by entry date, so sign up early. Participants who stay for dinner will also enjoy live music by Kevin Ryan and friends!

Proceeds for this event will go once again to Ridgefield Sunrise Cottage, a home to six developmentally disabled adults. The Cottage celebrates eleven full years; operating as a group home, providing comfortable independent living for the residents. It is located in a neighborhood setting close to the community center of Ridgefield. The town of Ridgefield has embraced the home and has affirmed the importance of assimilating individuals with special needs in the local community.
