Blessing of Animals at St. Stephen’s in Ridgefield This Sunday

All pets are welcome to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church at noon this Sunday, Oct. 2, for a Blessing of the Animals. It will take place on the front steps of the church, which is located at 351 Main Street.

The tradition of blessing animals developed around the Oct. 4 Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, who proclaimed the goodness of God in all created things.

“This brief (and slightly chaotic) blessing is in recognition of how pets bless our lives,” said the Rev. Whitney Altopp, rector of St. Stephen’s. Each will receive a medallion of St. Francis.
