Spirituals at Congregation Shir Shalom

The Serendipity Chorale will be joining Congregation Shir Shalom’s Adult Choir and area choral singers, on Friday, January 13, 7:00 PM.  This is the fourteenth year Gigi Van Dyke, and Cantor Deborah Katchko-Gray have collaborated on a spiritual musical journey fusing prayer and traditional spirituals throughout the service.

Gina Wilson, a gifted pianist and accompanist will play piano that evening. Rabbi David Reiner will deliver a special message on Rev. Martin Luther King and co-lead the worship service.

The sharing of spirituals began with a healing service years ago in Norwalk, where Gigi and Cantor Debbie first met. They knew that music was a powerful force and have been sharing in their traditions of spiritual music ever since. The service honors the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his message of tolerance and justice for all.

The Serendipity Chorale was founded and organized by Gigi Van Dyke 40 years ago.  They perform regularly up and down the eastern coast of the United States. The Serendipity Chorale has a beautiful repertoire, diverse and powerful, with messages of hope and tolerance, peace and love. The State of CT, Andy Williams and Pete Seeger have honored them.

The community is welcome to share in this creative worship service of spirituals. Refreshments will follow the service.

Interested choral singers are welcome to share in the music. There is one mandatory rehearsal Monday January 9th  6:30-8:30 in the sanctuary. Please rsvp and music will be reserved for you. cantordebbie@ourshirshalom.org
