St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 351 Main St., will present a Choral Evensong on Sunday, February 19, at 5 p.m. The event, originally planned for last Sunday, was postponed due to the snow storm.
Evensong, the centuries-old tradition of sung evening prayer, includes hymns, anthems, and Anglican chant. The canticles on February 19 will be the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis by English composer Herbert Brewer (1865-1928). Musical selections will also include the anthem Holy is the True Light by Sir William Harris (1883-1973), and the Blackburn Cathedral responses by John Bertalot (b. 1931).
“Evensong is a beautiful and meditative experience,” said Scott Toperzer, Minister of Music at St. Stephen’s. “If you’ve never joined us for this service, consider carving a little time from your busy schedule.” The service is free and open to the public; donations will be accepted. A wine and cheese reception will follow the service.
