Robert Randolph and The Family return to The Ridgefield Playhouse Tomorrow!

He’s the “Jimi Hendrix” of pedal steel guitar - Robert Randolph and The Family return to The Ridgefield Playhouse on August 24

Robert Randolph & the Family Band definitely “Got Soul” on their brand new tour!  Celebrating the release of their latest album “Got Soul” the return to pedal steel virtuoso and his family band return to The Ridgefield Playhouse on Thursday, August 24 at 8pm as part of the Pepsi Rock Series Powered by xfinity.

Wowing fans across the nation since his debut, Robert Randolph is often called the “Jimi Hendrix of the pedal steel guitar” and has been named one of the greatest guitarists worldwide.  He is credited with revolutionizing the role of his chosen instrument. “Got Soul” takes stock of Randolph’s past as a church musician in New Jersey even as it pushes the band forward into new places with its upbeat, positive church/gospel/rock/bluesy vibe to it.  Robert is a rock and roll preacher on Got Soul

Kicking off the night is Jamie McLean Band.  Touring is a staple for Jamie McLean Band and they’ve hit the road with the likes of Gregg Allman, Dr. John, Taj Mahal, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, Blues Traveler, North Mississippi Allstars, Joan Armatrading, Drive By Truckers and Gov’t Mule. Jamie Mclean Band has also appeared at festivals such as Bonnaroo, Mountain Jam, Gathering of the Vibes, Bele Chere, Ottawa Blues Fest, Quebec City Summer Fest, and Warren Haynes’ Christmas Jam to name a few. Visit Little Pub (59 Ethan Allen Hwy, Ridgefield) for lunch the day of the show and enjoy a FREE glass of house wine or draft beer with your entree when you show your ticket and check out 850 Degrees Wood Fired Restaurant (424 R. Main Street, Ridgefield) for dinner before the show and enjoy a complimentary draft beer with purchase of an entree when you show your ticket!

Got Soul, drawn from the title track and the song into which it segues, “She Got Soul,” is Randolph’s way of saying that people all need to reconnect with who they really are.   “People like Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters, Elvis and the Stones, they were all in tune with their soul,” Randolph said in the release. “When you’re digging deep in your soul, you can always find originality. People got soul everywhere.”  There’s certainly no shortage of originality on “Got Soul.” Produced by multiple Grammy nominee Matt Pierson, the 12-song set runs the gamut from the aforementioned gospel-informed numbers to deep, funky grooves to incendiary rock-and-soul jams. The hauntingly exquisite “Heaven’s Calling” features Randolph on solo steel while guest vocalists Anthony Hamilton and Darius Rucker lend their golden pipes to “She Got Soul” and “Love Do What It Do,” respectively. “I Thank You,” the ‘60s Sam & Dave R&B smash, is completely reimagined in the hands of the Family Band and Snarky Puppy’s very own Cory Henry.
