FREE Tickets for Kids: Hansel and Gretel Live in HD at The Ridgefield Playhouse

The deliciously dark fairy-tale opera, Hansel and Gretel, will be shown at The Ridgefield Playhouse on December 22nd

Enjoy this fascinating retelling of Humperdinck’s fairy-tale opera, Hansel and Gretel, in the Met’s Special Holiday Encore Presentation in HD onFriday, December 22nd at 1:30 pm at The Ridgefield Playhouse as part of the Benchmark Senior Living at Ridgefield Crossings Live in HD & Classical Series and The Metropolitan Opera Live in HD Series with support from The Ridgefield Press and Whistle Stop Bakery.

This deliciously dark take on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tale, appealing to audiences of all ages, was part of the Met’s popular English-language holiday series. The composer, Engelbert Humperdinck, was a protégé of Richard Wagner, and the opera’s score is flavored with the sophisticated musical lessons he learned from his idol while maintaining a charm and a light touch that were entirely Humperdinck’s own. Alice Coote and Christine Schäfer star as the famous siblings lost in the woods who battle the ravenous witch – a zany portrayal by tenor Philip Langridge – while the Met orchestra, under the baton of Vladimir Jurowski, glories in the rich folk-inspired score.

The Ridgefield Playhouse offers free tickets to students 18 and under as a way for parents to introduce their children to the arts.  FREE tickets are also available for Benchmark Senior Living at Ridgefield Crossings Live in HD screenings of the Bolshoi Ballet and the National Theatre of London.
